Everyone knows that in politics, the highs are high and the lows are low.
Well, this week that saying has never been truer – and never on this scale.
This lawsuit and this fight against Bill 5 were never just about me.
It was always about upholding our democracy, our city, our rights, and our Charter.
It was about standing up to a petty and vindictive bully, in the name of a strong City of Toronto, whose councillors are there to serve all of us, the people.
More importantly, I did it so we all could hold an arbitrary and autocratic Premier to account, and seek justice for all Torontonians.
But then all Torontonians, all Ontarians, and all Canadians lost when he tore up our Charter.
Remember: just because we’ve hit the lowest of the lows, it doesn’t mean that we won’t see brighter days.
I promise you that I’m not finished. Not yet, and not by a mile.
Because this was never just about me.
And together, there’s still more to do for all of us.
Thank you for your words of encouragement – they inspired me to keep going, and they still do.
