The Province of Ontario has initiated Transit-Oriented Communities to ensure more housing and jobs are created near or at transit stations along the routes of the province’s four priority subway projects, including the Ontario Line. This will allow a third-party developer to build housing and commercial spaces in our communities with a zoning plan from Infrastructure Ontario.
Through the Build Transit Faster Act, the Province has extended its reach into local planning matters and has taken extraordinary measures to expropriate municipal lands and even so far as to not compensate municipalities.
