A Message from Deborah Williams, Your Elected School Board Trustee

On June 27, 2025, the Minister of Education placed four more school boards under supervision - including the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Under supervision, trustees are not representatives of the board. Critical decisions are being made by a single supervisor. Democratically elected trustees have been sidelined and not allowed to fulfill their role and responsibility to represent students, families, and constituents.

Despite “record funding”, provincial investment in education fails to keep pace with inflation. Many school boards across Ontario are struggling with provincial underfunding. Public schools play a vital role in fostering equity, inclusion, and student well-being which lays the foundation for improved achievement, literacy, critical thinking, and the essential skills that fuel prosperity for Ontario and Canada. Supporting public education is the right thing to do and it’s a smart investment.

I believe strong public education builds strong communities. I remain committed to advocating in collaboration with stakeholders for schools where all students can reach their full potential.

During the TDSB supervision period, I can be reached at [email protected].

With the respiratory virus season underway, Toronto Public Health is strongly encouraging residents to use all available layers of protection to reduce respiratory virus spread, protect themselves and those who are most vulnerable, such as young children and older adults. Each layer of protection adds up and works best when used together, especially when respiratory virus activity is high.

In 2026 & 2027, revitalizing Downtown Toronto is tied to revitalizing Downtown East – but, troublingly, the City Budget calls for an almost 50% cut to the Downtown East Action Plan.
Together we need to raise the alarm, take action, and stop the cut because the Downtown East Action Plan is the key to transforming and revitalizing Downtown Toronto – both physically and economically.
