Air Conditioner Assistance for Low-Income Seniors

Copy: Are you 65+ and living in an apartment building? You may be eligible to receive a free portable air conditioner from the City of Toronto. This summer, the City is launching a pilot program to provide free portable air conditioners to some low-income seniors with a health-related need for air conditioning. Applications will be accepted from Monday, May 26 to Friday, June 6

Q: How do you apply for the Air Conditioning Assistance program?   

A: Seniors or their caregivers will have the option to apply online at toronto.ca/ACProgram, by phone at 416-397-2220 or in-person at one of the following locations:   

  • Scarborough Civic Centre (150 Borough Drive) on Tuesday, May 27, 9:00am to 4:00pm and Tuesday, June 3, 9:00am to 4:00pm. 
  • Regent Park Community Centre (402 Shuter Street) on Wednesday, May 28, 9:00am to 4:00pm and Wednesday, June 4, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
  • Keele Community Hub (1652 Keele Street) on Friday, May 30, 9:00am to 4:00pm and Friday, June 6, 9:00am to 4:00pm. 

Q: Where can I get help with the application?  

A: Seniors and caregivers can receive help with accessibility support, application accommodations or general information about the program by contacting the Human Services Integration Office at 416-397-2220 from Monday, May 26 to Friday, June 6. More than 130 residents participated in community safety meetings hosted by my office and Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) this spring in St. James Town and Moss Park. The meetings brought together residents, TCHC staff, Toronto Police Service, the City's Violence Intervention and Support Unit, Fred Victor, and Unison Health and Community Services to discuss local safety concerns and identify solutions.
