Apply to Host a Natural Ice Rink in Your Local Park by October 17

The City’s Natural Ice Rink Program brings together neighbours, families and friends of all ages to build and maintain a natural ice rink at their local park for everyone to enjoy. Applications for the 2025/2026 season are now open and close on Friday, October 17.

To get involved, communities are asked to form a group of at least six volunteers, all aged 18 or older, and identify a flat, open space in a local park that could host a rink. A mandatory orientation and training session is required for new groups and strongly encouraged for returning volunteers. Once approved, the group is responsible for building and maintaining the rink throughout the winter season, including tasks such as flooding, snow clearing and closing the rink at the end of the season.

Volunteers can review the full list of criteria and apply online through the City’s Natural Ice Rinks webpage.

More than 130 residents participated in community safety meetings hosted by my office and Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) this spring in St. James Town and Moss Park. The meetings brought together residents, TCHC staff, Toronto Police Service, the City's Violence Intervention and Support Unit, Fred Victor, and Unison Health and Community Services to discuss local safety concerns and identify solutions.
