Better Homes: Furnace Upgrade Program

The City’s Furnace Upgrade program supports homeowners in replacing their aging furnace with an electric heat pump. Get access to low interest financing, find available rebates and incentives, and connect with qualified contractors to make energy efficient improvements easier and more affordable.

Better Homes offers a suite of programs to help Toronto residents make their homes more energy-efficient and climate-resilient. Learn more: toronto.ca/BetterHomes.

Heat pumps provide year-round comfort, use electricity instead of natural gas, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and can lower energy bills over time.

  • More efficient: Delivers 2-4 times the heating output per unit of energy because they work by moving existing heat rather than generating it
  • Dual Comfort: Designed and proven to work in cold climates, they provide both heating in the winter and cooling in the summer, keeping your home comfortable year-round when replacing both your furnace and air conditioner at once.
  • Cleaner: Produces far fewer greenhouse gas emissions than natural gas furnaces because electricity is a cleaner fuel for home heating than natural gas

Toronto homeowners can access low interest financing through the City’s Home Energy Loan Program (HELP). Eligible residents can borrow up to $125,000 to make energy efficient upgrades to their home. Learn more about financing, and other available rebates and incentives.

More than 130 residents participated in community safety meetings hosted by my office and Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) this spring in St. James Town and Moss Park. The meetings brought together residents, TCHC staff, Toronto Police Service, the City's Violence Intervention and Support Unit, Fred Victor, and Unison Health and Community Services to discuss local safety concerns and identify solutions.
