Cherry Blossom Season in Toronto

Did you know that parks across the city have cherry blossom (Sakura) trees that will soon be in bloom? Typically lasting four to 10 days, the blossoms are expected to peak in early May, depending on weather. There are many locations to see blooms across the city. Learn more and find the park nearest you on the City’s Cherry Blossoms web page.

Can I pick the cherry blossoms?

Don't climb the trees, pull on branches or remove the blossoms. Healing from this kind of damage takes energy and can make a tree more susceptible to drought or disease, which can contribute to the tree's decline. Help keep our cherry blossom trees healthy by staying on trails and avoiding walking under them.

Are there any access restrictions at High Park?

To manage the high volume of visitors to High Park during cherry blossom season, there will be no vehicle access (except for TTC) or parking inside High Park beginning Friday, May 1 for the duration of peak bloom. Learn more at toronto.ca/CherryBlossoms

Is High Park the only place to see cherry blossoms in Toronto?

There are more than a dozen City parks in which to enjoy cherry blossoms, including Centennial Park, Edwards Gardens, Cedarvale Park, Trinity Bellwoods Park and Cedar Ridge Park. There are also public locations such as York University campus, the Exhibition grounds and the Scarborough and St. George campus locations of the University of Toronto. More locations, including detailed maps and accessibility information, can be found at toronto.ca/CherryBlossoms.

It has been a tremendously busy summer! Between Pride and FIFA on one end, the final Toronto and East York Community Council and City Council of the term later this month on the other, and the ongoing Church Street Pedestrianization Pilot, my team and I have been working hard to continue delivering results. Despite the stress, despite the heat, and especially despite the province’s ongoing work to make the City of Toronto miserable, for this final proper Councillor Update of the term, I want to provide positive vibes only.

The celebration on Church Street continues! The Church Street Pedestrianization has officially launched, with the Church-Wellesley Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) and my team installed patios and more seating on Church Street post-Pride to make it an even better place to visit. The pedestrianization lasts until August 21, so come on out and experience The Village like never before, enjoy the beautiful weather, and help me advocate for more pedestrianization across the City and to make this pilot permanent!
