Don Valley Parkway Maintenance Closure: May 8 to May 11

From 11:00pm on Friday, May 8 until 5:00am on Monday, May 11, the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) will be closed from Hihgway 401 to the Jarvis Street exit on the Gardiner Expressway for maintenance, cleaning and inspection. During the closure, City road crews, engineers and contractors will conduct road resurfacing, crack sealing, replace guardrails, repair lighting and signage, repaint lane markings and more.

If you’re travelling into the city this weekend, please plan ahead and take public transit if possible. The City is working with map apps to ensure they share up-to-date information about the DVP maintenance closure and alternate routes.

Completing this work during a single closure reduces the need for multiple overnight lane restrictions, which are more disruptive for motorists and less safe and efficient for crews. The City will implement a comprehensive traffic management plan to mitigate traffic congestion on alternate routes during maintenance work, including:

  • Deploying Traffic Agents
  • Adjusting traffic signal timing
  • Advance messaging using electronic messaging boards

It has been a tremendously busy summer! Between Pride and FIFA on one end, the final Toronto and East York Community Council and City Council of the term later this month on the other, and the ongoing Church Street Pedestrianization Pilot, my team and I have been working hard to continue delivering results. Despite the stress, despite the heat, and especially despite the province’s ongoing work to make the City of Toronto miserable, for this final proper Councillor Update of the term, I want to provide positive vibes only.

The celebration on Church Street continues! The Church Street Pedestrianization has officially launched, with the Church-Wellesley Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) and my team installed patios and more seating on Church Street post-Pride to make it an even better place to visit. The pedestrianization lasts until August 21, so come on out and experience The Village like never before, enjoy the beautiful weather, and help me advocate for more pedestrianization across the City and to make this pilot permanent!
