Financial and Social Support for Toronto Residents

As we enter a period of economic uncertainty, I wanted to make sure that Toronto Centre residents know that you can get help with the cost of childcare, rent, recreation or transit in person or online through the City of Toronto. Find more information on the City’s Financial & Social Support For Me webpage.

Residents can apply online, over the phone, or in person for a number of financial and social supports through the City of Toronto including:

  • Fair Pass Transit Discount Program
  • Rent Geared to Income (subsidized housing)
  • Welcome Policy (recreation fee subsidy)
  • Child Care Fee Subsidy
  • Ontario Works/Emergency Assistance
  • Funeral Expenses
  • Health Support (Hardship Fund)

You can apply in person or online for many of these benefits. Get help with the cost of transit, child care, rent and recreation at two in-person sites: At Scarborough Civic Centre every Tuesday and at Regent Park Community Centre every Wednesday as well at pop-ups at City and community location across Toronto. Staff can take applications from residents for benefits and subsidies, answer questions and help navigate available services at these in-person sessions. Find out more at toronto.ca/HumanServices.

More than 130 residents participated in community safety meetings hosted by my office and Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) this spring in St. James Town and Moss Park. The meetings brought together residents, TCHC staff, Toronto Police Service, the City's Violence Intervention and Support Unit, Fred Victor, and Unison Health and Community Services to discuss local safety concerns and identify solutions.
