Have Your Say on the City’s Proposed Waste Strategy Update

Help shape Toronto’s waste future by sharing what matters to you. Your feedback in the final phase of the City’s Long-term Waste Management Strategy Update consultations will help inform the 10-year (2026–2036) Reduction and Diversion Plan to increase waste diversion, reduction and reuse through implementation of policies, programs and education. Join the virtual consultation on Wednesday, February 11 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm and take the online survey before Sunday, March 8.

The City wants to build on its existing programs by exploring new actions or looking for opportunities to reduce and divert new materials such as clothing or reusable household items. Opportunities to increase access to programs or update how services are delivered are also being explored, examples of these include drop-off sites or supporting not-for-profits or charities to promote a share-repair-reuse culture and enhancing waste reduction and diversion in City-serviced multi-residential buildings and non-residential customers.

The Waste Strategy Update is being prepared in three phases. Each phase includes public consultation and input from the public and interest groups. The Phase 2 report is now available under Phase 2: Evaluate Possibilities.
