What are the benefits of the new ferries?
The new fully electric ferries will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve the passenger experience with increased capacity, better accessibility, more comfortable seating, and smoother, quieter rides.
When will the new ferries arrive?
The first of the two new fully electric ferries — the passenger‑and‑vehicle vessel — is expected to arrive in late fall 2026, followed by the second passenger‑only ferry in spring 2027. Both will undergo mandatory commissioning, lake trials, crew training and regulatory checks before entering service and welcoming the first passengers aboard.
What steps were taken to select the shortlisted names?
The names were developed by a Ferry Naming Committee of community members, waterfront and Island stakeholders, and City staff. They were carefully reviewed to ensure they are non-commemorative, easy to pronounce, suitable for long-term use and unique for Transport Canada registration and marine communication before being put to a public vote.
