Joyce Wieland Lane Unveiling

On December 2, I officially named an laneway adjacent to 10 Bright Street after the late Canadian artist, Joyce Wieland. Together with members of her family, friends, neighbours, old students and the Art Gallery of Ontario, I was honored to  commemorate her contributions and legacy.

Joyce Wieland lived and worked a block north of this laneway at 497 Queen Street East and had an art studio where she created larger canvas pieces down the street at 507 King Street East. Most significantly, some of these pieces were displayed in the prime minister’s office and at Spadina Station.

Joyce Wieland’s art exhibition, “Heart On” is currently ongoing at the Art Gallery of Ontario until January 4, 2026.

More than 130 residents participated in community safety meetings hosted by my office and Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) this spring in St. James Town and Moss Park. The meetings brought together residents, TCHC staff, Toronto Police Service, the City's Violence Intervention and Support Unit, Fred Victor, and Unison Health and Community Services to discuss local safety concerns and identify solutions.
