March of the Dragon at Wellesley TTC Station

The unveiling of "March of the Dragon," a vibrant new 2SLGBTQ+ mural at the entrance of Wellesley TTC Subway Station, took place on Saturday, June 21– right in time for Village Fest and Pride Festival 2025!  Designed by artist Jieun Kim in collaborative consultation with my office, the Church Wellesley Neighbourhood Association, Church-Wellesley Village BIA, and Pride Toronto, the project was funded completely by section 37 funds through my Participatory Budgeting process from 2023 and led by STEPS Public Art

The project celebrated resilience and unity in the heart of the village. The project began when a resident who wanted to see the bronze panels above Wellesley Station turned into a giant mural. Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, the large metallic canvas has been scaled down to just the TTC portion of the station.

The mural showcases diverse individuals riding a dragon with flags proclaiming "Love Wins" and "Safe Space For All. It is a testament to inclusivity and community spirit, supported by various local organizations. I’m glad to see it was finished right in time for everyone attending Pride to enjoy!

More than 130 residents participated in community safety meetings hosted by my office and Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) this spring in St. James Town and Moss Park. The meetings brought together residents, TCHC staff, Toronto Police Service, the City's Violence Intervention and Support Unit, Fred Victor, and Unison Health and Community Services to discuss local safety concerns and identify solutions.
