Queen Street Closure - Starting May 1, 2023

Starting May 1, 2023, the Ontario Line construction will require Queen Street, between Bay Street and Victoria Street, to be closed by Metrolinx for about 5 years. 

For Pedestrians: 

  • While Queen Street will be closed to all vehicles, it will be open for pedestrians.


For Drivers: 

  • Starting May 1, 2023, all vehicle traffic will be diverted off Queen Street from Bay Street to Yonge Street and from Yonge Street to Victoria Street 
  • Vehicles heading Eastbound along Queen street can avoid construction by taking an alternative route on Dundas Street, Adelaide Street East and King Street
  • Vehicles heading Westbound along Queen street can avoid construction by taking an alternative route on Dundas Street, Richmond Street West, Wellington Street West and King Street

For Commuters: 

501 Queen streetcars will divert both ways between McCaul Street and Broadview Avenue due to the construction of the Ontario Line project.

  • the 501 Streetcar will divert to Dundas Street between McCaul Street to Broadview Avenue and back to Queen street towards River Street.
  • the 501B replacement bus Eastward will be running in the area south of Queen Street from Bay Street onto King Street and North on Church Street, turning back onto Queen Street tracks until Broadview Avenue.
  • the 501B replacement bus Westward will be running from Broadview Avenue North onto Gerrard Street heading West and south on River Street back onto Queen Street West. 
  • the 301 Night bus Eastbound will divert southwards on Bay Street onto King Street, North on Church and turning Eastward back onto Queen. The Westbound 301 Night Bus will be the same except the diverted route would be Richmond Street West. 

501 Queen streetcars will divert both ways via McCaul Street, Dundas Street, and Broadview Avenue, to regular route.

301 Queen Blue Night buses will operate as follows:

  • Eastbound: east on Queen Street West, south on Bay Street, east on King Street, north on Church Street, and east on Queen Street East, to regular route.
  • Westbound: west on Queen Street East, south on Church Street, west on Richmond Street, north on Bay Street, west on Queen Street West, to regular route.

 

Temporary new route branch

501B Queen buses will operate as follows:

  • Eastbound: Bathurst Street, east on Queen Street West, south on Bay Street, east on King Street, north on Church Street and east on Queen Street East, to Broadview Avenue.
  • Westbound: River Street, west on Queen Street East, south on Church Street, west on Richmond Street, north on Bay Street, west on Queen Street West to Bathurst Street.

This branch will be removed from service, once the streetcar track work along Adelaide is complete.

 

Transfer points

Customers can transfer to and from buses on streetcars at the following stops:

  • Eastbound: On Queen Street West at John Street. On Broadview Avenue, north of Queen Street East.
  • Westbound: On River Street, south of Dundas Street East. On Queen Street West at John Street.
