Ongoing Metrolinx Works in Moss Park

Ongoing work at Moss Park includes the construction of the arena parking lot and preparation for the future Moss Park station. Sewer and utility surveying, overnight drilling, and borehole drilling activities are also underway.

To minimize disruptions, Metrolinx is implementing measures for low-noise overnight drilling, keeping noise levels below 60 decibels and using monitors for real-time compliance.

As part of our commitment to keeping you informed about the developments in our community, I wanted to provide you with an update regarding the ongoing Ontario Line construction in your neighbourhood. Metrolinx is bringing more stations to our area, promising easier commute options and enhanced connectivity. This expansion promises improved accessibility, reduced travel time, and enhanced mobility options, making our neighbourhood even more lively and connected.

Here’s a glimpse into the ongoing work that residents can expect in the near future:

Construction Preparation Activities at Moss Park: Construction work at Moss Park started on October 2, 2023, and will continue for the next three months. The work includes site preparation activities such as working platform installation and overnight pedestrian walkway installation. The new Moss Park arena parking lot construction will also be underway.

Crews will also be connecting sewers in preparation for the future Moss Park station. Please note that overnight sewer works on Sherbourne Street will begin on October 21, 2023, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a lane closure overnight for one weekend from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize traffic impacts. Future details will be provided soon.

The Metrolinx Corktown Station project team is actively engaged in discussions with the City and the TTC to explore the feasibility of scheduling noisy work during daytime and early evening hours rather than overnight. Please see note below.

Metrolinx’s Commitment to Low-Noise Overnight Drilling

I understand that construction activities, especially overnight drilling, can cause disturbances and affect the peace of our residents. That’s why I am pleased to inform you that Metrolinx is implementing stringent measures to ensure that the ongoing overnight drilling activities are conducted with utmost consideration for your well-being, particularly your sleep. Here’s how they’re ensuring your sleep remains undisturbed:

Noise Level Compliance: Metrolinx has committed to keeping noise levels at 60 decibels or lower, similar to a face-to-face conversation. This ensures the Moss Park neighbourhood remains peaceful even during the construction phase.

Monitoring Compliance: Metrolinx has strategically placed noise and vibration monitors at the perimeter of the site to provide accurate data, ensuring the noise level consistently meets the required noise level standards. This technology allows them to validate and confirm compliance in real-time, reflecting their dedication to minimizing the noise impact produced by drilling, hydrovac trucks and the use of heavy equipment.

I want to emphasize that your peace of mind is a priority. If you experience any disturbances related to noise or vibrations that you believe exceed the acceptable levels, please do not hesitate to contact Metrolinx. Your feedback is crucial in ensuring that our community’s tranquillity is preserved. For more information, please see Metrolinx's Ontario Line webpage or sign up for the e-newsletter.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please feel free to reach out. Your voice matters, and I am here to represent your interests.
