Construction of the David Crombie Park Revitalization and The Esplanade Mill Street Connection Project is starting in March 2026. Work will be completed in a phased approach to allow the community to continue to use most park spaces and walkways throughout the construction period. The final phase of construction is anticipated to be completed in 2028.

The City is improving David Crombie Park, and the Esplanade and Mill Street to respond to the current and future needs of the community. The design for the park improvements was developed in consultation with the community and finalized in 2023.

The City of Toronto’s Development Review Division has received an application for 30-40 Huntley Street & 112-124 Isabella Street.to amend the Official Plan and Zoning By-law to permit two residential buildings, 56 and 60 storeys, with approximately 1,362 purpose-built rental units, including 33 rental replacement units. The project retains portions of the existing listed buildings at 122-124 Isabella Street, 30-32 Huntley Street, and 38-40 Huntley Street. A related Rental Housing Demolition and Conversion application will be reviewed concurrently with the Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment Application to permit the demolition and replacement of 33 rental dwelling units.

Join us on Tuesday, February 24, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Ontario Heritage Centre, as we unveil a Toronto Heritage Plaque that celebrates the challenges overcome by the Chinese Canadian community in 19th-century Toronto. 

One of the first Chinese residents on record in Toronto was Sam Ching, the owner of Sam Ching & Co. Chinese Laundry at 9 Adelaide Street East in 1878. Ching was recorded in the 1878 Toronto directory with another Chinese man, Wo Kee, at 385 Yonge Street. Ching and Kee were joined by Chinese men across the Asia Pacific who migrated from western Canada after helping to build the transcontinental Canadian Pacific Railway, which was completed in 1885. Unable to join the workforce due to racist hiring practices at the time, many Chinese men chose to open laundries, a line of business that was generally unpopular. 

At the event, we will be joined by Heritage Toronto and Chinese-Canadian Historian and Author Arlene Chan to talk more about the significance of this location and Ching's history.

The City of Toronto’s Development Review Division has received an application for 59 to 65 Adelaide Street East to amend the Official Plan and Zoning By-law to permit a 63-storey mixed use building with approximately 357 residential dwelling units, 702 square metres of non-residential gross floor area, zero car and 201 bike parking spaces.

Lace up your skates & join me for a free Family Day Skate in Regent Park!  Saturday, February 14, 2026, 12:00-4:00 pm at the Regent Park Ice Rink, 480 Shuter Street.

Family Day is an opportunity to come together as neighbours, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy our shared community spaces. The Family Day Skate will be a family-friendly event open to residents of all ages, whether you’re an experienced skater or stepping onto the ice for the first time. Free skates, helmets, and skating aids will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, courtesy of the City of Toronto’s Skate Lending Library. Volunteers will be on the ice to help, and a DJ will be on site to keep the energy up and the music going.

There will also be hot beverages, refreshments, and games, creating a welcoming and fun environment for families and neighbours to enjoy together. Our office will be on site in collaboration with the City of Toronto Parks & Recreation, Friends of Regent Park and more.

The City of Toronto’s Development Review Division has received an application to permit a mixed-use building at 329-337 Queen Street East and 135R-141 Berkeley Street. This proposal is for a 49-storey mixed-use building with 545 units and 470 sq m. 51 car parking spaces and 557 bike parking spaces would be provided. The application also proposes closing a public lane, and dedicating a 300 sq m park to the City.

The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association (SLNA) Waste Reduction Group is hosting its 15th REmarket event on Feb 11 & 12, 2026! If you have never attended, this is a fantastic event that aims to make a direct, tangible impact on both the environment and the social welfare of our local communities. Whether you are looking to recycle electronic waste, get your household times--including bicycles--repaired or want to donate unused clothing, glasses or cell phones, you can do it all at REmarket!

New items continue to be being added to the growing recycling list. At the upcoming REmarket, you can now bring in medal keys and wooden chopsticks! Come out and see what you're missing!

The following was collected at the 14^thREmarket last October:

REuse (Days 1 & 2):

• 31 skids/11,625 lbs went to The Salvation Army after another successful FreeMarket
• 345 pairs of glasses collected for Optic Zone for redistribution
• 16 cell phones to the CNIB’s Phone It Forward program

Recycling (Days 1 & 2):

• 368kg/811 lbs were dropped at the REcycling Zone which included:
  • 49.8 kg of cosmetic containers to PACT
  • 24.3 kg of oral care items to TerraCycle
  • 150 water filters to TerraCycle
  • 1,800 pens/pencils, 3,850 batteries, 8.1 kg of ink/toner cartridges to Staples
  • 1,440 units for REcycling by Plastic Flux
  • 2,040 single use masks to Canada Strong
  • 375 disposable razors and packaging to TerraCycle
  • 22,320 cigarette butts to TerraCycle
  • 512 Black Take out containers to Plastic Flux
  • 660 coffee bags and 2335 coffee pods to TerraCycle
  • 19,300 plastic bread/milk tags to Danielle Cares for Chairs
  • 1,407 disposable contact lenses & blister packs to TerraCycle
  • 16,600 aluminum can tabs to The Robert Hampson Tabs for Kids Fund
  • 1,330 plastic mesh bags to K, There Co.

Join me on Saturday, February 7, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM as we celebrate Black Excellence in Ward 13, Toronto Centre. This event offers residents and youth of our community the opportunity to meet local leaders who operate our city’s vital services, to gather career advice, and to be part of a network with other community members.

In this panel discussion, we've invited experienced and successful members from the public and non-profit sectors. These leaders, who hold executive roles in various industries, will share their stories of success, challenges, and their journeys to becoming who they are. With much more to accomplish, come and be part of the conversation with a chance to ask questions and meet them up close.

Denise Campbell, Deputy City Manager at the City of Toronto will moderate the panel and will include myself and an esteemed panel of Black leaders, including: Nadia Gouveia - Chief Operations Officer, Toronto Community Housing Corporation; Dr. Na-Koshi Lamptey - Medical Officer of Health, City of Toronto; and Nigel Barriffe - President of Urban Alliance on Race Relations & Vice President of Elementary Teachers of Toronto.
