Regent Park Phases 1 to 5 Community Update

I had the privilege of joining Regent Park residents, Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC), Daniels Corporation, and Tridel teams for a community meeting on Phases 1 to 5 of our revitalization update on February 29.

I had the privilege of joining Regent Park residents, Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC), Daniels Corporation, and Tridel teams for a community meeting on Phases 1 to 5 of our revitalization update on February 29.

The energy in the room was positive as residents received updates on milestones including:

  • The soon-to-be-completed and final TCHC rental building in Phases 1 to 3;
  • The upcoming community vote for a benefits package worth $26.8 million;
  • The launch of the Regent Park Scholarship program;
  • The start of demolition in Phase 4a; and
  • Information on booking amenity spaces within existing TCHC buildings.

We also discussed the revitalization of the Regent Park economy through creating employment prospects, facilitating skills training initiatives, offering support for business development, and ensuring local programs are funded while prioritizing safety and youth programs.

I want to thank local caterers Patricia, Mohammed, Ines, Zarguna, Orfa, Malika, Rosanne, and Ines who provided delicious meals, as well as the band Soulful, who made this event a memorable one.

The dedication and collaboration demonstrated by everyone involved are truly commendable and reflect our shared commitment to the well-being and prosperity of Regent Park.

It has been a tremendously busy summer! Between Pride and FIFA on one end, the final Toronto and East York Community Council and City Council of the term later this month on the other, and the ongoing Church Street Pedestrianization Pilot, my team and I have been working hard to continue delivering results. Despite the stress, despite the heat, and especially despite the province’s ongoing work to make the City of Toronto miserable, for this final proper Councillor Update of the term, I want to provide positive vibes only.

The celebration on Church Street continues! The Church Street Pedestrianization has officially launched, with the Church-Wellesley Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) and my team installed patios and more seating on Church Street post-Pride to make it an even better place to visit. The pedestrianization lasts until August 21, so come on out and experience The Village like never before, enjoy the beautiful weather, and help me advocate for more pedestrianization across the City and to make this pilot permanent!
