Children’s Spring Poetry Contest: Entries due May 5!

Calling all budding poets! To celebrate spring, the City of Toronto is hosting its first Children’s Spring Poetry Contest! Children ages six to 14 are invited to write a poem about what they love most about Toronto’s parks. Children are encouraged to be creative and expressive in their poems to highlight their favorite memories at a local park.

Three winners will be selected by Toronto’s Poet Laureate, Lillian Allen in each age category: six to eight years old, nine to 11 years old and 12 to 14 years old. Find more information on the City’s Children’s Spring Poetry Contest webpage.

Poems must be originally written by a child between the ages of six and 14 years old. Poems can be written in any style, must include a title and be no longer than 300 words. The contest is open to Toronto residents only, and the deadline to submit a poem is noon on Monday, May 5.

You can submit a poem online at toronto.ca/PoetryContest. A parent or legal guardian is required to complete the form on behalf of the child entering the contest.
