In June, “March of the Dragon,” a vibrant new 2SLGBTQ+ mural was unveiled at the entrance of Wellesley TTC Subway Station – just in time for Village Fest and Pride Festival 2025. Designed by artist Jieun Kim in collaboration with my office, the Church Wellesley Neighbourhood Association, Church-Wellesley Village BIA, and Pride Toronto, the project was funded completely by section 37 funds through my Participatory Budgeting process from 2023 and led by STEPS Public Art.
This project celebrates resilience and unity in the heart of the Village. It began when a resident wanted to see the bronze panels above Wellesley Station turned into a giant mural, although unfortunately, due to safety concerns, the large metallic canvas was scaled down to just the TTC portion of the station.
This mural showcases diverse individuals riding a dragon with flags proclaiming “Love Wins” and “Safe Space For All”. It is a testament to inclusivity and community spirit, supported by various local organizations. I’m glad to see it was finished just in time for everyone attending Pride to enjoy!
