Morley Callaghan Bridge Reopens!

On September 13, I had the pleasure of joining Barry Callaghan, community members, MPP Jessica Bell , MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam and Councillor Dianne Saxe to mark the official reopening of the newly upgraded Morley Callaghan Bridge. Commonly known as the Glen Road Pedestrian Bridge, the restored pedestrian tunnel and walkway links North St. James Town with South Rosedale across the Rosedale Valley Ravine.

The event on Saturday brought together residents, families, and friends for a joyful afternoon, highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and activities for all ages.

This long-anticipated project has significantly improved accessibility and safety while introducing new artistic elements, making the bridge a more welcoming and inclusive space for all. Among the upgrades are a completely rebuilt bridge, a refreshed tunnel, a new public square near the Glen Road entrance to Sherbourne Subway Station, and a fully accessible path connecting the bridge to Bloor Street East, right across from Sherbourne Station.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to residents of the Glen Road Village community, the Bloor East Neighbourhood Association, the South Rosedale Residents’ Association, the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, and the owners and management of 451 Bloor Street East for organizing and supporting such a meaningful celebration. Your dedication and collaboration truly captured the community’s energy and pride. I also want to thank all the City staff from who were part of this project, especially from Transportation Services and the Public Engagement teams.

More than 130 residents participated in community safety meetings hosted by my office and Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) this spring in St. James Town and Moss Park. The meetings brought together residents, TCHC staff, Toronto Police Service, the City's Violence Intervention and Support Unit, Fred Victor, and Unison Health and Community Services to discuss local safety concerns and identify solutions.
