Queen Street will be closed around Yonge Street for the construction of the Ontario Line. Yonge Street remains open to Northbound & Southbound traffic.
Wellesley Street East from Jarvis Street to Sherbourne Street will undergo road reconstruction and watermain replacement, while the section from Ontario Street to Parliament Street will include road resurfacing and watermain replacement. Both segments will include upgrades to the cycling facilities and road safety improvements.
Construction is expected to take place from Spring 2026 to Winter 2026.
Transportation Scope of Work:
Cycling Upgrades
• Poured-in-place concrete curb separation
• Updated pavement markings to current standard
• Raised bus/bike platforms at TTC bus stops
• Installation of bicycle signals at Homewood Avenue, Sherbourne Street and Ontario Street
Safety Improvements
• Raised crosswalk at Wellesley Place
• Modifications to curb radii, where possible
• New Wheel-Trans Accessible Loading pick-up and drop-off zone location on the northeast corner of Wellesley Street at Ontario Street to service the Food Basics store and area
Traffic Management
The road is narrow and curved in sections, and it will not be possible to maintain two lanes of traffic at all times during construction.
• During watermain work: Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
• During road work: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Two-way travel will be managed using a temporary traffic signal.
• The cycle track cannot be maintained during construction, and cyclists will need to share the roadway. – Appropriate signage will be posted indicating alternative cycling routes
• Pedestrian access and access to businesses will be maintained throughout construction.
• TTC buses may need to be temporarily rerouted during construction.
• Emergency access will be maintained.
