REmarket: February 11 and 12!

The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association (SLNA) Waste Reduction Group is hosting its 15th REmarket event on Feb 11 & 12, 2026! If you have never attended, this is a fantastic event that aims to make a direct, tangible impact on both the environment and the social welfare of our local communities. Whether you are looking to recycle electronic waste, get your household times--including bicycles--repaired or want to donate unused clothing, glasses or cell phones, you can do it all at REmarket!

New items continue to be being added to the growing recycling list. At the upcoming REmarket, you can now bring in medal keys and wooden chopsticks! Come out and see what you're missing!

The following was collected at the 14^thREmarket last October:

REuse (Days 1 & 2):

31 skids/11,625 lbs went to The Salvation Army after another successful FreeMarket
345 pairs of glasses collected for Optic Zone for redistribution
16 cell phones to the CNIB’s Phone It Forward program

Recycling (Days 1 & 2):

368kg/811 lbs were dropped at the REcycling Zone which included:
- 49.8 kg of cosmetic containers to PACT
- 24.3 kg of oral care items to TerraCycle
- 150 water filters to TerraCycle
- 1,800 pens/pencils, 3,850 batteries, 8.1 kg of ink/toner cartridges to Staples
- 1,440 units for REcycling by Plastic Flux
- 2,040 single use masks to Canada Strong
- 375 disposable razors and packaging to TerraCycle
- 22,320 cigarette butts to TerraCycle
- 512 Black Take out containers to Plastic Flux
- 660 coffee bags and 2335 coffee pods to TerraCycle
- 19,300 plastic bread/milk tags to Danielle Cares for Chairs
- 1,407 disposable contact lenses & blister packs to TerraCycle
- 16,600 aluminum can tabs to The Robert Hampson Tabs for Kids Fund
- 1,330 plastic mesh bags to K, There Co.
- 4.8 kg of plastic cannabis packaging back to Value Buds
- 3,420 Non-synthetic corks for REuse by the Toronto Public Library - St. Lawrence branch for art projects and for REcycling at Jelineck Cork Group
- 7600 Elastic Bands for REuse by the Toronto Public Library - St. Lawrence branch and Gorgeous & Beautiful Flowers at The Market

Repair (Day 2)

118 visitors with 164 items brought in for repair by 25 Repair Café Toronto volunteers
17 bikes were REpaired by the 5 CultureLink Bike Hub volunteers

Waste:

Five skids of electronic waste were collected by Renewed Computer Technology (RCT)
55 Glucose monitors for electronic waste
Seven 50L bins of household hazardous waste and light bulbs

Councillor Update - February 2026

A huge thank you to everyone, including residents, business leaders and their associations, who wrote to Mayor Chow and the Budget Committee to demand that the Downtown East Action Plan (DEAP) be fully funded. Thanks to your support, funding for the DEAP will increase from $756,000 to $1.4 million this year. The plan will need a full $2.2 million in 2027, so I hope you will continue to support this significant work next year. This critical funding supports our Clean Streets teams and Community Safety initiatives to ensure our neighbourhoods are clean, safe, and welcoming.

Last December, I wrote about the impact of Premier Ford’s Bill 60, Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025’s impact on renters. The impact of Bill 60 goes beyond the Premier’s fight against bike lanes in Etobicoke; it threatens to derail any current or future transportation project in Toronto that dares impact a lane of traffic.

Material Exchange Directory: Applications Now Open!

The City is accepting applications for its new Material Exchange Directory, a user‑friendly online resource that will showcase local programs helping Torontonians sell, buy donate or trade materials instead of sending them to landfill. Launching later in 2026, the directory will help residents, community groups and businesses find local organizations that support the reuse, resale or donation of excess goods and materials, including household items, equipment and building materials.
