The Adelaide Street East and Richmond Street East bridges that run over Sumach Street have incredible potential beneath them to transform into new public spaces. By adapting a space meant for cars into a space meant for the community--similar to what happened with Underpass Park to the east, these spaces which are currently dominated by private parking can become a place for everyone.
There is currently rehabilitation efforts occurring above which are set to end in 2027. Following that work, I will push to properly reimagine and animate these underpass spaces.
