Cabbagetown South is a neighbourhood primarily made up of Victorian heritage homes, many of which are part of the Cabbagetown South Heritage Conservation District. This community is described as the largest continuous area of preserved Victorian housing in all of North America.
Following provincial legislation that stalled The Gerrard East Complete Street project, the City has identified a new approach to the streetscape and road design along Gerrard Street East (Sherbourne Street to River Street), which maintains motor vehicle lanes, in compliance with provincial direction. The revised design between Sherbourne Street and Parliament Street includes a uni-directional bikeway eastbound and westbound (on the north and south side) while future proofing for a bi-directional bikeway on the south side as originally envisioned.
