One event I am always happy to promote is the great work the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association's Waste Reduction Group (WRG) does with their regular REmarket events! Operating out of the St. Lawrence Market Tent at 125 The Esplanade, the WRG has done incredible work to reduce Toronto Centre's environmental impact. While they won't be returning until October 21 and 22 of 2026, I wanted to give them a special shoutout and opportunity to promote their own work.
All City-owned outdoor and wading pools are operating on a full-time summer schedule, open daily from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Splash pads are open and operate daily from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Residents are advised to check individual location schedules online before visiting.
The City is replacing all 470,000 Water Meter Transmission Units (MTUs) across Toronto, which will take about three years to complete. The City’s contractor Neptune Technology Group (Canada) will contact residents and businesses by mail with instructions on how to book your MTU replacement appointment. It’s important to book your appointment as soon as you are contacted.
Rideables – lightweight, personal and often electric modes of transportation like bikes, e-bikes and mopeds – have become a key part of how people get around Toronto. Whether you’re riding for fun, commuting or making deliveries, it’s everyone’s responsibility to ride safely, follow the rules for rideables and respect fellow travellers.
Protecting your skin from the sun is the best way to prevent skin cancer. Wear sunscreen, stay in the shade and wear protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses. The City is once again partnering with the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund and the Douglas Wright Foundation to offer residents and visitors free sunscreen through #BeSunSafe dispensers at select parks, beaches and camp sites. The program has expanded to City golf courses, so that golfers can be protected while out on the greens.
Prolonged or extreme heat can affect your health in different ways, including heat stress, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms of heat illness can range from mild to severe. To help ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, the City of Toronto activates a Heat Relief Strategy from May 15 to September 30.
The REmarket is a community event to promote the REmarketing of usable post-consumer goods that can be REused, REpaired, and REcycled and to REthink our purchasing decisions by taking Responsible actions in our consumption of material goods. This two- day community event is for people to drop off and swap unwanted goods to prevent them from being sent to landfill.

Hot on its heels, our first Environment Day is happening at Allan Gardens on May 10, the Underpass Park Farmers' Market is opening May 14, and patio season begins right around the Victoria Day weekend. The pedestrianization of two blocks of Church Street this summer is a major initiative that I have been working on with the Church-Wellesley Business Improvement Area. From June 19 - August 21, Church Street will be pedestrianized between Wellesley Street East and Alexander Street. To date, over 2,200 people have signed a petition in support of this, and I invite you to add your support by visiting the Toronto Centre Projects website.
