As the end of summer approaches, I hope you have some time this month to relax and get to all those projects around the house you haven't had time for. We have had a very hot summer this year, and I hope you have managed to stay cool. If you have not seen it, my staff maintains a map of cooling spaces on my website that you can use to plan around unseasonably warm temperatures.

Despite August being a month of rest for a lot of City committees, there is a lot of news to share, so please check out my website for all of the recent updates.

Today marks an important milestone for the City of Toronto as it celebrates the graduation of 40 new Traffic Agents. On Sunday, July 20, our community came together to celebrate the official opening of Louis March Park--formerly Sumach-Shuter Parkette--a revitalized green space renamed in honour of the late Louis March. This renaming recognizes his lifelong commitment to community safety, youth advocacy and violence prevention, as well as the contributions of other leaders who have helped shape our neighbourhood.

I know this has been a very disruptive project, especially for local businesses, and I thank everyone for their patience and understanding as this critical intersection has been under construction.

Overnight on-street permit parking is officially active in Regent Park. Permit Parking Area 7L, was approved by the Toronto and East York Community Council to help manage local parking demand and ensure equitable access to residential on-street parking. This past June, the Province of Ontario passed Bill 6: The Safer Municipalities Act, 2025, introducing new provincial rules related to public drug use and trespassing. As your Councillor for Toronto Centre, I want to provide you an overview of what the bill does, why it was introduced and how it connects to federal guidelines already in place.

As of Thursday, July 31, landlords in Toronto need a licence before starting repairs or renovations that require tenants to move out. This new Rental Renovation Licence Bylaw aims to help curb bad faith evictions and protect tenants from the practice of ‘renovictions’, preserve Toronto’s affordable rental housing stock and establish a transparent and equitable process for landlords to responsibly complete necessary renovations.
