Community Environment Day at Allan Gardens

On May 18, I held my first Community Environment Day for 2024 at Allan Gardens. I was pleased to see so many turn out to drop off their recycling, dispose of electronic and household hazardous waste and pick up free compost. The weather was perfect and it was amazing to see the efforts of City staff.

April City Council Highlights

Toronto City Council had another full and engaging agenda this past April 16 and 17. There was timely discussion about fixing the Vacant Home Tax, big strides in improving tenant assistance for those impacted by rental demolitions, and plans to expand both its Student Nutrition Program and the Alcohol in Parks program.

As spring arrives, it's impossible not to reflect back a year to the escalating situation at Allan Gardens. Remembering the challenges, but also the resilience of our community, allows us to move forward with hope and determination.

March 2024 City Council Update

Toronto City Council had a jam-packed and exciting session this past March 20 and 21. Aside from lively discussion about the 2026 FIFA World Cup, section 37 funds were released for projects coming from my office’s Participatory Budgeting 2023 exercise.

Participatory Budgeting 2024

Last year was the first time PB was done in Ward 13; we learned a lot about what improvements residents want to see in their neighbourhoods. Now, it’s time to generate some new ideas for 2024!

The Mayor's Budget

On February 1, Mayor Olivia Chow released her version of the budget. This iteration comes after the Staff budget was released on January 10th and underwent extensive public consultation at pre-budget consultations last November, budget town halls, and budget committee meetings. 

Getting Toronto Back on Track: The Proposed 2024 Budget

Over the last week, I have heard from many constituents about the City’s proposed 2024 budget. I wanted to address the concerns I have heard regarding the property tax rate increase as I can understand the anxiety this has caused.
